In 2023 the year of music vision came to life through a year long celebration through music. residents and visitors enjoyed world class music from kirklees.

THE BRIEF:

This project was undertaken during my second year of university. The brief was conceptual, however fit in with the surrounding events in Kirklees. The brief was self defined, and I set out to come up with a brand identity for the Kirklees Year of Music that would resonate with a younger audience.

THE PROBLEM:

I looked at the existing brand collateral for the Kirklees Year of Music, and I found that it was confused and quite corporate. I also felt it was lacking distinctiveness, which felt like a missed opportunity for such a brilliant event. I decided to ‘reimagine’ the branding in the aim of designing something truly unique to the event, whilst simultaneously appealing to a younger audience.

THE SOLUTION:

I interacted with people within the local community to help inform my illustrations, all of which are inspired by local musicians. I decided to go with a simpler illustration style that could be easily translated onto different platforms, even creating smaller animations as digital assets. Both the brand colours and illustration style had an element of human touch to them- such as the hand drawn lines and textures. I thought this was a nice touch in bringing personality to the event, after all, it was about shining a light on the local community of talented creators.
